Secondary malignancies of the brain are the most common intracranial tumors in adults. As the diagnostic modalities and treatment options of the underlying disease have evolved rapidly over the last decade, one important limiting factor is the presence, characteristics and localization of secondary cerebral tumors. Depending on the underlying disease, a systemic spread with intracranial tumor mass can influence prognosis. Thus, the question of a surgical intervention of single or multiple brain lesions still remains a difficult one.

The aim is to identify appropriate state-of-the-art treatment modalities for secondary brain malignancies. Interdisciplinary management of these patients is mandatory, and the treatment strategies depending on the underlying disease have changed over the years. Another goal should be to describe recent advances in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of secondary brain tumors.

This research topic deals with original articles, case reports or review articles concerning the following themes:

1. Minimal-invasive treatment options (thermoablation etc.)

2. Treatment of side-effects e.g. hydrocephalus

3. Treatment algorithms single/multiple lesions

4. Intraoperative imaging

5. Intraoperative radiotherapy

Keywords: cerebral metastasis, lymphoma, brain tumor, treatment, complications
