Background

Frontiers in Pediatrics is delighted to introduce the ‘Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in’ series of article collections

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning are fast-growing fields that are used extensively in medicine and healthcare, ranging from basic research through to the clinical setting. Although there is ample research on the use of AI and machine learning in adult medicine, this does not necessarily translate to pediatric care.

Frontiers in Pediatrics is looking to address key aspects of artificial intelligence and machine learning in Neonatology in order to promote important discussions around this topic. This Research Topic aims to collect knowledge regarding the design and application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in Neonatology. Sub-themes include, but are not limited to:

• AI-guided diagnosis and treatment
• AI in precision medicine
• AI for end-to-end drug discovery and development
• AI in telemedicine
• Machine learning
• Big data analytics
• Natural Language Processing
• Ethical and legal considerations

Keywords: artificial intelligence, machine learning, neonatology

Important note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
