About this Research Topic
It is thought that 1 in 13 people will develop PTSD in their lifetime. While this is such a large proportion of the population, there is still a lot of stigma surrounding the condition. This results in discriminatory actions and attitudes towards people who are living with PTSD, on both a personal and public level. Mental health stigma has a number of harmful impacts such as reduced hope, lower self-esteem, increased psychiatric symptoms, difficulty with social relationships, and reduced likelihood of getting or staying with treatment.
This Research Topic aims to showcase evidence on why the stigma surrounding PTSD is so detrimental to those living with it. It hopes to provide insights into research and interventions on how this stigma can be tackled and awareness raised, in the hope that the research presented will translate to best practice applications in clinical, public health, and policy settings.
We invite researchers to submit a range of articles including but not limited to original research articles, reviews, meta-analyses, opinions, perspectives, and case reports to provide new evidence on the following:
- Harmful impacts of stigma on people living with PTSD.
- Interventions on reducing stigma surrounding PTSD.
- Health promotion in PTSD.
- Interventions in raising awareness for PTSD.
