About this Research Topic
The goal of this Research Topic is to improve the knowledge and understanding of the immunological aspects of innate and adaptive immune modulation driven by the purinergic system during viral infections. All submissions pertaining to the latest knowledge elucidating the role of the purinergic system in viral clearance or in the control of inflammatory processes related to viral, infection will be given full consideration for publication.
This Research Topic aims to publish Review articles, Original Research papers, commentaries, opinions, and perspective articles focusing on the immunological aspects of the purinergic system’s dual role in infections caused by viruses. Sub-themes revolving around the main topic will be included, but are not limited to, the following:
• Purinergic signaling cascade triggered exclusively by viruses.
• Work on modulation of the infectious disease process by purinergic receptor inhibition.
• Novel drug targets with reference to the prevention of infectious diseases and the purinergic system.
• Interplay between purinergic signaling and inflammation.
Keywords: Purinergic system, Adaptive immunity, Innate Immunity, Immuno-modulation, viral Infections
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
