The study of cognitive functions and their link with brain activity has undergone significant development in recent decades throughout the world. This progress has been significant in developed countries; however, in Latin America as a whole this progress has been much slower and today the number of studies addressing this subject is much lower than those developed in Europe or North America. One of the possible reasons for this difference is the scarce public and private funding that has traditionally been allocated to this type of study in Latin American countries. Research into this area has increased in recent years and therefore greater visibility in this area is warranted.

The objective of this Research Topic is to publish original articles and reviews that address, as a central element, aspects related to the main theme of "Cognition and brain activity in Latin America". Methodological approaches should include quantitative methods. The focus group includes all stages of life, people from different backgrounds, and people with and without diagnoses. It is therefore intended to bring together a wide range of studies with different theoretical and methodological approaches considering different populations. We cordially invite you to submit manuscripts that make a conceptual, methodological, empirical or related contribution to this Research Theme.

We encourage you to submit papers on the following topics:
-studies addressing the relationship between cognition and brain activity in children;
-studies addressing the relationship between cognition and brain activity in the adult population;
-studies addressing the relationship between cognition and brain activity in the population with pathologies;
-studies that address the relationship between cognition and brain activity in the population without pathologies;
-other topics related to cognition and brain activity;
-papers dealing with literature reviews on the study of cognition and brain activity in Latin American countries.

Keywords: Cognition, neuroimaging, neuropsychology, brain connectivity, brain activity

Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
