Biomass is an important renewable resource on the Earth, which can be transformed into biofuels, biochemical, and biomaterials to meet the requirements of green chemistry and sustainable development. Obviously, multifunctional biomass composites have attracted more and more attention due to their interesting properties and promising applications by combining the characteristics of biomass and the advantages of composites.

Recently, rapid progress has been paid on multifunctional biomass composites. Using biomass as a matrix or key component, the biomass composites, films, hydrogels, and aerogels were reported. More importantly, multifunctional biomass composites exhibited excellent mechanical, electrochemical, photothermal, Joule heating, and sensing properties. Multifunctional biomass composites were developed to be applied in various applications, such as energy storage, environmental, and biomedical fields. Interestingly, there are a few reports on the applications of biomass composites in the cleanup of crude oil spills, triboelectric nanogenerators, and Chinese herbal medicine. However, there are still many challenges in multifunctional biomass composites, for example, the complex structure of biomass, complicated pretreatment process, composite mechanism, high cost of the synthetic process, large-scale manufacturing, developing properties, and promising applications.

This research topic aims to address the opportunities and challenges of multifunctional biomass composites. The potential topics of interest include but are not limited to:
• Green synthesis routes of multifunctional biomass composites;
• Synthesis of multifunctional biomass films, hydrogels, and aerogels;
• Mechanical and electrochemical properties of biomass composites;
• Photothermal and Joule heating performance of biomass composites;
• Multifunctional biomass biochar;
• Biomass composites for electromagnetic interference shielding;
• Flexible biomass composites for wearable devices;
• Flexible biomass composites for human motion monitoring;
• Biomass composites for energy storage;
• Biomass composites for triboelectric nanogenerators;
• Biomass composites for fast cleanup of crude oil spills;
• Biomass composites mechanism;
• Biomass composites adsorbents;
• Analysis of heavy metal content of biomass Chinese herbal medicine;
• The effect on breast cancer of biomass Chinese herbal medicine;
