About this Research Topic
Epigraphy belongs to the auxiliary sciences of history dealing with inscriptions. Since the 16th Century, epigraphy is the study of inscriptions, especially their decipherment, their handwriting, their understanding including material context, cultural context, date, and eventually writer. More and more epigraphists use recent digital tools from medicine, mathematics and forensic sciences to improve the knowledge of inscriptions. These new data, approaches and methods need to find a special place to be presented to the specialists of Humanities and Social Sciences in dialog with the IT specialists and technicians.
