About this Research Topic
Pregnancy adverse outcomes (PAO) such as pre-eclampsia (PE) (high blood pressure with proteinuria), gestational diabetes (GDM) (high glucose in pregnancy) or preterm birth (PTB) can be devastating for the parents and the newborn child. They can lead to prolonged hospital stays for the mother and the child. In addition, they can affect the child's future development and lead to other co-morbidities such as cerebral palsy and neurodevelopmental delay, obesity, and lifelong diabetes for both. Immune cells play an essential role in pregnancy as they prevent the rejection of the fetus. One type of these immune cells is T cells and their subsets.
This call aims to bring together articles demonstrating how different T-cell subpopulations can influence or be a biomarker of risk for pregnancy complications such as PE, PTB and GDM. Immune T cell subsets in the early stages of pregnancy and beyond could be identified and monitored for the prevention of developing PAOs may be possible following a therapeutic intervention, lifestyle or dietary changes and careful weight monitoring.
All scientists and researchers interested in this Research Topic are invited to submit their work in the form of Original Research, Review, Mini-Review, and Systematic Review articles offering new insights within the T Cells in Pregnancy Adverse Outcomes perspective. We welcome manuscripts focusing on, but not limited to, the following sub-topics:
• T Cells and T Cell subsets in the Pregnancy Adverse Outcomes perspective;
• T Cells or their subsets such Regulatory T Cells, CD4/CD8 etc. in the Pregnancy Adverse Outcomes perspective;
• Meta-analyses on T Cell or their subpopulations in the Pregnancy Adverse Outcomes perspective.
