Rapid and accurate diagnosis play crucial roles in improving clinical outcomes and general public health. Biosensors have been widely applied for rapid diagnostics (e.g. point-of-care) with minimum need for operator input, which decrease the error rate, while improve the accuracy. Antibodies, the ideal recognition elements with high specificity and sensitivity, are popularly employed in biosensors for detection of various diseases, food and environmental contaminants and biological warfare agents. Moreover, advanced artificial intelligence technology may be employed to aid the antibody selection, designation, engineering and application, with lower cost, for improved antibody efficacy, affinity, sensitivity, specificity and stability.

This Research Topic aims to help readers to gain a general view of antibody application in biosensors by collecting information focusing on:
1) The history, current application, the future and challenge of antibody-based biosensor;
2) How to design an antibody-based biosensor;
3) How to generate and improve the antibody for biosensor
4) Optimization of other elements for assay improvement (e.g. buffer, surface, detection, assay design);
5) How to select, design, engineer and apply antibody for biosensor via the advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

We welcome the submission of Original Research, Review, Mini Review, and Perspective articles on themes including, but not limited to:

• Antibody application in biosensor;

• Development of antibody-based biosensor;

• Antibody generation and optimization for antibody-based biosensor;

• Optimization of the performance of antibody-based biosensor (e.g. through buffer, surface, labelling, detection etc.);

• AI technology in antibody selection, designation, engineering and application;

• Future and challenge of antibody-based biosensor.

Keywords: Antibody, biosensor, artificial intelligence, diagnostics, specificity, sensitivity

Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
