About this Research Topic

Manuscript Submission Deadline 13 September 2023

Ionic Liquids (ILs) as salt at room temperature have attracted interest in organic chemistry, due to the organic cationic properties (i.e. N-alkyl pyridinium ions or 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium and tetrafluoroborate or hexafluorophosphate as an inorganic anion). In addition, ILs have good catalytic efficiency involving catalytic polymerization. ILs have been applied for the development of new synthetic labels of carbohydrates (N-glycans) in serum and other disciplines, such as biochemical synthesis, food science, biotechnology, and molecular biology. This research topic is interested in studying the ionic liquid synthesis and its applications to discover small molecules with high potential anti-pathogens: antivirals, antimicrobials, and anti-cancers.

We highly appreciate the results and scientific research reports on the activity of viruses, diseases, protective factors, and the immune response to COVID-19. We also welcome studies dealing with the development of vaccines, preventive or therapeutic vaccines, therapeutic antibodies, and antiviral drugs based on in-depth study. We are trying to bring together more relevant research and advance the understanding of the viral molecular pathogenesis of coronavirus infection, to discover treatment strategies for this deadly infectious disease. Interested researchers are encouraged to submit manuscripts including original research, mini-review, and reports focusing on the following topics:

1) Synthesis of a new therapeutically applicable molecular against viruses and their evaluating experimental comparison.
2) Studies of ionic liquids with function - multiple potencies, their synthesis, and applications as antiviral and COVID-19 antivirals
3) Using ionic liquids as a new ionization indicator of tools to detect viral infection

In addition, research directly targeting anti-infectives that will be able to publish cutting-edge research and developments in this area are welcome:
• Developing small molecules-IL therapies
• Wide area Vaccines/targeted anti-viral including SARS-CoV 2.
• Modification of chalcone and its derivatives with ionic liquids.
• Ionic liquids as antimicrobial
• Other potential therapeutics; antibiotic, antimicrobial, and antivirals approaches

Keywords: Small-Molecule, Potential Therapeutics, anti viral, Ionic liquid, Anti pathogens, Drugs

Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
