About this Research Topic

Manuscript Submission Deadline 06 March 2024

The world is facing several viral disease outbreaks. The most dreaded of them, COVID-19, started in early 2020 and still continues to create panic and result in deaths. This pandemic has seen also simultaneous resurgence of other viral diseases, mainly Monkeypox and Influenza virus, which again led to loss of human life all over the world. These diseases have been reported from non-endemic areas in the world and demonstrated that these viruses have now migrated from their endemic zones. Influenza virus, due to its structure and ability to mutate, has developed newer, novel strains and spread all over the world. It becomes a challenge to diagnose such patients in the present scenario with overlapping viral diseases and symptoms. It is imperative on our part to develop newer, point of care testing methods to diagnose them.

In this context, we are launching this Research Topic in Frontiers in Tropical Diseases, and we welcome contributions in the form of impactful manuscripts focusing on the topic “Recent Outbreak of Viral Infections".

With these issues in mind, we encourage and welcome submissions of manuscripts regarding the following aspects:

- Perspectives and reviews regarding the different outbreaks of viruses in recent times
- Original or review articles regarding recent viral outbreaks
- Case reports or case series of any new viral disease outbreaks with typical or atypical presentation
- Development and improvement of new point-of-care techniques for the detection of the viruses
- Viral outbreaks having potential to cause an epidemic or pandemic

Keywords: viral infection, outbreak, monkeypox, influenza

Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
