About this Research Topic

Manuscript Submission Deadline 11 December 2023
Manuscript Extension Submission Deadline 12 January 2024

Atherosclerosis (AS) is a leading cause of mortality worldwide. AS is a progressive disease and so, early detection and intervention can lead to huge health benefits while also reducing the associated disease burden.

Proteomics and the study of gene expression is one area of molecular biology with huge therapeutic potential. This Research Topic will explore protein profiling with a view to identifying potential biomarkers for the early detection of AS. This could include blood component changes of c-reactive protein, vascular endothelial growth factor, or other novel proteins.

Led by an international team of experts, this Research Topic will explore the role of protein identification and therapeutic use in the diagnosis of AS. The Topic editors encourage the submission of all manuscript types including original research, reviews, and methods articles. Sub-themes include, but are not limited to:
• Blood component changes
• Gene expression
• Cellular proteomics
• Plasma proteomics
• Vascular wall proteomics

Keywords: proteomics, gene expression, atherosclerosis, proteins, inflammation, gene

Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
