About this Research Topic
Early life trauma and stressors can have a significant impact on an individual's mental health throughout their life. Research has shown that individuals who have experienced trauma in early childhood are at a higher risk of developing psychiatric disorders, such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), later in life.
This Research Topic aims to investigate the effects of trauma on psychiatric health, exploring how trauma-induced disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression can persist and change over time. By examining longitudinal data, we hope to gain insights into how these disorders develop and evolve in later stages of life. Additionally, we will explore potential interventions and treatments that may alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life for those affected by trauma-induced psychiatric disorders.
Furthermore, we want to explore the development of psychiatric and non-psychiatric co-morbidities in early life to adult/old age population and the several treatment approaches applied to tackle them, including pharmacological and nonpharmacological ones.
We particularly encourage manuscripts focusing on the recent advances in epidemiological, etiological, diagnostic, management and outcome, and other clinical perspectives.
Articles may include cross-sectional-retrospective/prospective, cohort, clinical trials, scoping reviews, systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Articles would need to define nature and severity of stress and trauma and its adverse (etiological) impact on neurodevelopmental psychiatric trajectories, beginning in early life, their diagnostic transformation with advancing age including in old age. Manuscripts should also focus on psychiatric and physical co-morbidities of initial diagnoses considered in early life.
