Biosensors are integrated receptor-transducer devices, which can convert biological responses into external signals based on different approaches. The orchestration and development of biosensors towards early diagnosis of tumors have become the focus all over the world in the past decades. The representative challenges existed in this field are the improvement of transducer performance, such as “3S+2R”, i.e., Sensitivity, Selectivity, Stability, Response time, Reproducibility, etc. To break through the limitations of traditional analytical approaches and establish new methodologies, different techniques have been widely explored, to solve the scientific and technical questions in this field.

Hence, in this Research Topic, we would like to further explore the various analytical techniques towards tumor cell detection and diagnosis, such as electrochemistry, photochemistry, micro/nanomotors, microwave, microbalance, microfluidics, or the combination of them, focusing on the fundamental mechanism updates of traditional techniques or attempts in the exploration of novel analytical techniques.

Relevant submissions for this Research Topic include, but are not limited to, the followings based on the above techniques:
• Design of novel analytical micro/nanomotors biosensing platforms towards tumor diagnosis;
• Design of novel nanomaterials towards the enhancement of key parameters of transducer performance, such as “3S+2R”;
• Fundamental analysis of microwave biosensors, electrochemical biosensors, and photochemical biosensors;
• Biosensing of DNA, enzymes, proteins, cancer cells, lysosomes, cancer biomarkers, etc. towards tumor diagnosis;
• Clinical applications of biosensors for tumor detection.

Keywords: biosensors, cancer cell detection, DNA detection, Micro/nanomotors, cancer biomarker

Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
