About this Research Topic
The aim of this Research Topic is to shed light on the advances and the most recent discoveries of new pharmacological, and therapeutic compounds derived from desert and rain forest microorganisms. Researchers dealing with secondary metabolites produced by bacteria, actinomycetes, fungi or microalgae are encouraged to publish their recent findings here. Advance techniques, Omic sciences such as genomic, transcriptomic or metabolomic driven studies and their applications, nanoformulations that can be produced from microbial derived natural products are also encouraged.
We welcome Original Research, Review, Mini Review and Perspective articles on themes including, but not limited to:
• Isolation, chemical characterization and structural elucidation of new bioactive secondary metabolites derived from microbial resources (terrestrial, marine, and endophytic).
• Enhanced productivity of bioactive secondary metabolites derived from microorganisms using different Omics approaches.
• Recent methods and mechanisms involved in the production of new secondary metabolites derived from microbial sources and exploring aspects of the biosynthesis pathways.
• Structure modification and in silico modelling of secondary metabolites isolated from microbial sources to improve their biological functions.

Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
