As part of our journal’s mission to address intervention strategies for the prevention, control, treatment methods, and challenges relating to tropical diseases in the most vulnerable populations; this research topic will focus on ‘Women, Gender Differences and Tropical Diseases’.

Led by an expert team of specialists, the Research Topic will accept manuscripts within this area of research, with the aim of giving the reader an overview of the latest discoveries and new findings, analysis of previously published data, new opinions and perspectives, and methods and protocols (when relevant). For that reason, all article types accepted by Frontiers are encouraged.

Specific themes of interest:

- Gender differences in the impact of tropical diseases
- Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) characteristics associated with tropical diseases outcomes in women
- Role of women empowerment in mitigating the impact of tropical diseases
- Promoting gender equality in programs for improving tropical diseases outcomes

- Implementation of tropical disease health literacy programs for women from underserved communities and from racial/ethnic minority groups
- Surveillance systems and frameworks for protecting pregnant women from neglected tropical diseases
