Advances in Coastal Dunes

The development of dune fields provides consistency and protection to the coastline. Therefore, they are considered the best defense against the strong waves produced by storms. In addition, from an ecological approach, the dunes represent the habitat of several animal species and host numerous plant species. Coastal flooding and human activity have caused the loss of much of the dune field. Their degradation and disappearance increase the fragility and vulnerability of the coastal system and puts the coastline in a very compromised situation against the effects of climate change.



The objective of this Research Topic is to present field or theoretical studies on coastal dunes that allow us to have an updated vision of existing problems as well as their possible solutions along with current and future lines of research.



We invite submissions on "Advances in coastal dunes" from a range of disciplines (e.g., geomorphology, biology, biogeomorphology, ecology, coastal zone management…). They can be based on field observations, modeling and/or geospatial techniques.
