Background

Thanks to continued research, the safety and efficacy of veterinary surgery continues to grow. Scoping and systematic review articles help disseminate information about novel development in surgical procedures. Review articles help clinicians optimize patient management algorithms and make the safest intraoperative decisions. However, there is a relative lack of review articles focused on veterinary surgery. A special issue of Frontiers in Veterinary Science focused on reviews in veterinary surgery will help increase the current knowledge of veterinary clinicians who do surgery.

Our goal is to publish high-quality review articles on key topics in the field. It aims to highlight recent advances in the field, while emphasizing important directions and new possibilities for future inquiries. The Reviews in Veterinary Surgery collection welcomes systematic reviews, reviews and mini reviews. We strive to provide quality reviews that spark new ideas for future discoveries. New articles will be added to this collection as they are published.

Through the presentation of reviews on important topics we hope to stimulate further development of ideas and innovations in this field. Our goal is to present reviews on current topics to inform the profession on specific topics related to surgery.
