About this Research Topic

Manuscript Submission Deadline 15 March 2024

Individuals serving in occupations such as the military, public safety, and healthcare face a higher likelihood of exposure to traumatic events and consequently, a higher prevalence of several mental health conditions, than the general population. However, stigma related to mental health, work/life conflict, and fear of negative career repercussions can serve as important barriers to care.

This Research Topic will include research related to identifying and reducing barriers to accessing mental health services among occupational groups at higher risk of trauma exposure, including innovative prevention and intervention mental health programming as well as novel intervention delivery formats.

Submitted papers to this Research Topic may thus include, but are not limited to:
• The epidemiology of barriers to seeking mental healthcare and healthcare utilization among individuals in high-risk occupations
• Experiences of treatment seeking in these occupational groups
• Evaluations of novel mental health prevention and intervention initiatives.

Keywords: Occupational trauma, Military service members, Public Safety Personnel, Police, Essential workers, Healthcare workers

Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
