Latin America is undergoing a boom in sensor technologies across multiple sectors: Wireless sensors, Smart Sensors, Optical Sensors, IoT Sensors and Medical Sensors are among the technologies expected to grow in the Latin American Market until 2029 and beyond.

Wireless and Smart Sensors are highly competitive in consumer electronics, automotive and healthcare devices within the domestic and the international markets (focusing on pressure sensors, temperature sensors, chemical and gas sensors and position and proximity sensors). As for the Optical Sensors Market, there is expectancy of growth for the regional and global aerospace and defense sector. Innovative Internet of Things sensors are also a growth market, providing many cloud-based applications, in order to collect data and control the nearby environment (mainly focusing on humidity and temperature sensors). Their reduced cost and size will also act as a key factor in this market growth. And finally, the technology advancements of microtechnology and nanotechnology are increasing the production of medical sensors that can be adaptable to an individuals genetic formulation.

This Research Topic will showcase the latest advancements in Sensor research in the Latin American region, and as such, corresponding authors must be affiliated to an institution based in Latin America. The aim of this collection is to highlight the latest advances and current trends in sensing applications that contribute to scientific advancement in Latin America. As such, we welcome the submission of Original Research, Review, Mini Review, and Perspective articles on themes including, but not limited to:

• Wireless Sensors;

• Smart Sensors;

• Optical Sensors;

• IoT Sensors;

• Medical Sensors or Biosensors.

Keywords: Wireless Sensors, Smart Sensors, IoT Sensors, Optical Sensors, Internet of Things, Medical Sensors, Latin America, Latin American Research

Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
