About this Research Topic
In the last few years, the global demand of fresh water has substantially increased, due to population growth and developments in agriculture and industry. The world demand of fresh water for agricultural, industrial and domestic applications is expected to be about 6900 billion m3/day by the year 2030 , which would exceed the current available fresh water supply by about 40%. Consolidating technological developments involves the collective contributions of all interested experts to resolve all technical barriers, bottlenecks, and recognize possible and actual downsides that will decide the right niche of technology in a competitive market. Innovative ideas in the area of wastewater treat-ment are a collective endeavor, and this topic is encouraged by publicly contributing and learning about each other's experiences and achievements. A deeper understanding of the pros and cons of each technology should be facilitated by covering the full journey from large theories, intended to fix all, to their development into more detailed implementations. This special issue covers scientific strategies to improve water/wastewater treatment methods.
The goal of this Research Topic is to show state-of-the-art wastewater treatment technology, covering different issues related to wastewater management, treatment technologies/processes, water reuse, development and management of biosolids, water safety, legislation, economics, public acceptance, risk evaluation, risks, keys to success and constraints.
Special attention will be given to the following aspects:
- Adsorbents for water treatment
- Polymer nanocomposites in fabrication of membrane distillation and other membrane contactors
- Natural materials and their applications in water and wastewater treatment
- Process modeling and simulation of water and wastewater treatment
- Polymer membranes for Environments and Energy
- Reuse of treated water and its environmental impact
- Case studies
Both original research papers and comprehensive reviews are welcome. We look forward to your exciting contributions.
