Background

Soil improvement is an exciting and dynamic area in Geotechnical Engineering, constantly evolving with advances in research and practice. In recent years, significant progress has been made in soil improvement, encompassing new theories, materials, and construction methods. Moreover, Geotechnical professionals have accumulated valuable field data that can enrich the existing literature, making our designs more reliable and construction more efficient. A themed issue dedicated to soil improvement presents an excellent opportunity to showcase technical papers exclusively focusing on this topic, facilitating the efficient dissemination of information.

The overall objective of this themed issue is to gather and publish papers that highlight the most recent advancements in soil improvement research and practice worldwide. By raising awareness and promoting the adoption of new technologies, this issue aims to foster collaboration between researchers and practitioners, encourage innovation, and ultimately enhance the field of soil improvement. Although the technology may still be in its early stages with no immediate adoption on the horizon, this issue embraces advancements and innovations that have the potential to shape future developments in the field.

This themed issue welcomes papers covering a wide range of topics related to soil improvement, including but not limited to:

• New soil improvement methods
• Novel construction methods for existing soil improvement techniques
• Innovative materials for soil improvement
• Enhancements to existing methods
• Case studies showcasing successful soil improvement projects

In addition, this issue accepts papers that examine the long-term performance of soil improvement techniques, assess their behaviour under seismic loading, and explore soil improvement strategies for special soil conditions like organic soil and collapsible soil. We particularly encourage authors to submit papers presenting early-stage concepts that may lead to significant breakthroughs in specific soil improvement methods or the advent of new techniques
