The thyroid is an endocrine gland that regulates cell metabolism through the production of thyroid hormones. Thyroid dysfunction is common in the general population, which can be linked to the influence of endocrine disruptors and environmental factors. The prevalence of thyroid neoplasia is high among adults, but fortunately,
the majority of cases are benign. Therefore, understanding the biology of thyroid cell function, dysfunction, and tumorigenesis is essential to manage this relevant public health issue.
In the era of Omics technologies, there is a massive generation of data on genomic alterations and regulation of genes/proteins in pathological conditions such as cancer. However, integrating these data with the functional role of coding and noncoding RNA in thyroid cell biology is still deficient in of most studies.
Within this research topic we encourage the submission of manuscripts related to the molecular understanding of
thyroid cell biology, thyroid disorders, thyroid cancer and tumorigenesis.
This research topic includes, but is not limited to the:
• Novel molecular targets in thyroid cancer;
• Oncogenes and tumor suppressors involved in thyroid cancer;
• Role of noncoding RNA in thyroid cancer and biology (i.e. microRNA, lncRNA, circRNA);
• Molecular mechanisms of thyroid disease;
• New methods and models to study thyroid cell biology and tumorigenesis (i.e. gene editing and modulation).
