Carbonate sedimentology focuses on the genesis, transport, and accumulation of carbonate sediments, as well as their subsequent diagenetic alteration. Traditional carbonate sedimentology primarily involves describing and characterizing the overall morphology and internal structure of carbonate deposits, which is done through constructing sedimentary facies models and analyzing sedimentary sequence formation processes. In contrast, the concept of a "carbonate factory" focuses on the ecological factors of the depositional systems, such as light, temperature, and nutrient availability. This approach aims to analyze the specific controls of carbonate production. The study of carbonate production processes represents a new trend in the future development of carbonate sedimentology, and it is expected to make significant contributions to sedimentary geology, paleoenvironmental studies, and reservoir geology.We eagerly anticipate submitting high-quality articles on the quantitative reconstruction of carbonate production, which encompasses a wide range of formats, including review papers, concise method reports, long research articles, and case studies that utilize quantitative techniques.
