Progress in the exploration, development, protection, and utilization of Earth's resources and the associated environmental issues are related to global climate and environmental change, as well as various aspects of people's daily consumption. Therefore, the formation of oil and gas, mineralization of mineral resources, mineral resource supply-demand pattern evolution and decoupling and coupling with economic development and environment protection, and sustainable development and utilization have always been hot topics in geoscience.

Great efforts have been made in the exploration, development, protection, and utilization of Earth's resources and environment as well as in the sustainability of resources production and consumption. This Research Topic aims to summarize the latest research achievements in methods, technologies, applications, prospects, viewpoints, etc., and to solve scientific issues related to the exploration, development, and sustainable utilization of resources.

The topics include but are not limited to the following:
• Exploration, development, and protection of energy, mineral resources, and environment.
• Regional tectonic evolution and reservoir formation and mineralization.
• Micro-nano geological process and metallogenic mechanism.
• Recent advances in the reservoir characterization of conventional and unconventional porous rocks.
• Supply and demand pattern and sustainability of energy and mineral resources.
