Background

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a life-long neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by deficits in social-communicative functioning and the presence of repetitive and restricted behaviors, interests, and activities. Lately, there has been a great deal of interest and advancement in the field of ASD research. However, a unified solution has not yet been established because of the hazy etiology. Consequently, it will be very beneficial to investigate technological innovation and breakthroughs, which involve a variety of topics like screening, diagnosis, and intervention.

The goal of this Research Topic is to offer new concepts and methods for the identification and management of ASD from different perspectives. We aim to provide a comprehensive exploration of innovative approaches to the identification and management of ASD. By addressing various facets of ASD research, from behavioral evaluation to cross-cultural considerations, it aspires to contribute valuable insights for professionals in the fields of autistic diagnosis and treatment, special education, and related disciplines. It addresses key challenges and opens avenues for professionals to contribute to the well-being of individuals with ASD and their families.

We highly encourage addressing specific themes that encompass, but are not limited to, behavioral evaluation, brain imaging, neurobiochemical testing, eye movement analysis, early intervention techniques, comparative studies of different intervention techniques, and cross-cultural research. We also support the implementation of early screening and intervention programs at the regional, state, and federal levels, as well as the studies on mental health resources for parents of children with ASD. We believe that anyone working in the fields of autistic diagnosis and treatment, special education, policy research, and other relevant fields will find this Research Topic useful.

Keywords: Autism Spectrum Disorders, autistic diagnosis and treatment, special education, behavioral evaluation, brain imaging, neurobiochemical testing
