The intersection of mathematics with biological sciences continues to reveal significant insights into complex biological phenomena, laying the groundwork for the emerging fields of mathematical biology and medicine. This synergy has become critical, especially in the development of realistic biomedic and epidemiological models driven by mathematical principles ranging from network models to differential equations. Advances achieved in these fields are showcased annually at events like the 2nd Mathematical Biology and Medicine Workshop, highlighting the continual evolution and application of these models in addressing real-world biological and medical challenges.
This Research Topic aims to present recent advances in the mathematical modeling of biological systems, including detailed epidemiological models and cellular signaling networks, alongside the analysis of these models for pattern formation. Moreover, it seeks to explore the broad applications of numerical solutions to various forms of differential equations such as ordinary, fractional, partial, stochastic, and delay differential equations, emphasizing the role of optimal control and agent-based models.
To gather further insights into the expansive domain of mathematical biology and medicine, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
- Development and application of continuum models in biology and medicine
- Innovative numerical methods for solving differential equations in healthcare models
- Analysis of pattern formation in biological phenomena
- Optimal control strategies for dynamic biological systems
- Agent-based modeling and its implications in epidemiology and pharmacokinetics
- Interdisciplinary approaches combining mathematical theories with biological insights
This research endeavor seeks contributions from researchers, scientists, and graduate students, fostering an enriching exchange of ideas and advancing the boundaries of knowledge in these critical scientific domains.
