About this Research Topic
In response to the global increase in the demand of animal products and to the environmental impact that conventional livestock production systems have had (loss of biodiversity, carbon footprint, water pollution), there is a need to work on sustainable livestock production systems, that can enhance human health and animal welfare. This Research Topic includes the participation of a wide group of researchers, mainly from Latin America, working in different scientific fields. The emphasis is on measuring the trade-offs and synergies between sustainability criteria (environmental, social, economics, animal welfare) in different production systems. Alternatives and possible solutions for a regional and global policy on sustainability and food safety are also discussed.
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
