'Frontiers in Environmental Engineering' is pleased to open a call for papers for a new Research Topic presenting key highlights and insights on the topics listed hereafter, related, among others, though not exclusively, to the 9th International Conference on Biotechniques for Air Pollution Control and Biorefinery.

This collection aims to present an overview of recent innovations in the field of biotechniques for pollution control from experts across both academia and industry. Gathering cutting-edge research with a particular focus on air pollution control and biorefinery, but also including other related aspects, such as waste and wastewater valorization, and this collection welcomes original research and review papers in the following areas:

• Biodegradation and Valorization of Volatile Compounds and Air Pollutants: Addressing the breakdown and beneficial use of organic and inorganic pollutants, odorous compounds, and nitrogen and sulfur compounds.

• Bioconversion and Valorization of Waste Gases and Greenhouse Gases: Transforming gases such as methane (CH₄), carbon dioxide (CO₂), and carbon monoxide (CO) into valuable products.

• Bioconversion and Valorization of Wastewater and their application to sustainable biorefinery processes.

• Bioconversion and Valorization of Waste and their application to sustainable biorefinery processes.

• Syngas Fermentation: Exploring the biotechnological applications of syngas (a mixture of CO, CO₂, and H₂) for the production of biofuels and chemicals.

• Biogas Upgrading and Biodesulfurization: Improving the quality of biogas through purification processes and removing sulfur compounds.

• Microbiology of Biocatalysts: Studying aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, fungi, and algae for their roles in biorefinery processes.

• Bioprocess Engineering: Optimizing and developing bioreactors for waste gas treatment, wastewater traetment and waste treatment.

• Microbiological Aspects of Waste Gas Treatment, Wastewater Treatment and Waste Treatment: Investigating the physiology, metabolism, and microbial populations in bioreactors, as well as the application of novel microbiological approaches.

• Integration of Non-Biological Processes: Combining biological and non-biological methods to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of bioconversion processes.
