Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) syndrome, first identified by Professor Ganz in 2003, and associated hip labrum tears (LT) are recognized as significant contributors to hip joint pain and potential precursors to osteoarthritis. The intricate relationship between FAI's anatomical abnormalities and symptomatic expressions contributes substantially to the occurrence of LT. A critical review of the literature reveals persistent gaps in understanding the exact mechanisms by which FAI leads to labral tears, the challenges of diagnosing FAIS in atypical hip pain scenarios, and the need for enhanced imaging techniques to better identify LTs. Moreover, despite existing intervention strategies such as rehabilitation and arthroscopic surgery, there remains considerable debate about the criteria for surgical intervention, the impact of patient age and existing osteoarthritis, and the extent of bone deformity removal during procedures.

This Research Topic aims to compile state-of-the-art research on FAIS and LT, focusing particularly on the factors that influence the outcomes of both surgical and rehabilitative interventions. The goal is to foster a multidisciplinary dialogue that bridges gaps between research and clinical application, enhancing both the understanding and management of FAIS and LT. Contributions reflecting a comprehensive approach to addressing the challenges of FAIS and LT management are encouraged from diverse fields such as sports medicine, orthopedics, physical therapy, and exercise science.
