The field of sports injury rehabilitation is continually evolving, requiring the integration of diverse methodologies and disciplines. The multi-faceted nature of sports injury rehabilitation, which involves not only biological and physical aspects but also psychological, social, and contextual factors, is increasingly acknowledged. These factors collectively influence an athlete's recovery trajectory and outcomes after sports injuries.Return-to-play (RTP) decisions are inevitable for any rehabilitation personnel working with athletes. Decision-making is the cornerstone of all RTP recommendations. Many factors are responsible to the decision to RTP. This decision is created through a combination of clinical assessments (strength, flexibility, imaging) and functional field-testing. But returning to sport after an injury is not just a physical journey but also a psychological one. It’s crucial to acknowledge and address the mental aspects of recovery to ensure a successful return to athletic performance. Psychological readiness to RTP is not commonly monitored in practice, despite specific instruments being available. Psychological factors are important influences on returning to sport therefore, these factors should be offered greater weighting in RTS decision-making.This Research Topic aims to consolidate and advance understanding in the realms of injury rehabilitation with a particular focus on optimizing the safe and efficient return to sport. It seeks to explore innovative methods and integrate new findings that facilitate the recovery and minimize the recurrence of injuries among athletes. Given the complexity of sports rehabilitation, this investigation encompasses various sub-disciplines and adopts a holistic approach to recovery. To gather further insights in sports medicine and rehabilitation, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:- Integrative rehabilitation techniques combining physical therapy with psychological support.- Innovative technologies and their application in the rehabilitation process.- The role of nutrition and complementary therapies in enhancing recovery.- Case studies on successful return-to-play protocols post-injury.We are particularly interested in high-quality original research papers, including studies or comprehensive reviews in various sports, that punctuate new advances in the treatment and return to play after an acute and/or chronic sport injury.
