Training load is a pivotal element in sports training, encompassing the adjustment of variables such as intensity, volume, frequency, and density to foster improvements in athletic performance. While beneficial, the manipulation of training load can also result in detrimental outcomes like excessive fatigue, injuries, and overtraining, which can ultimately hinder an athlete's performance and health. Thus, understanding how to optimize training load is essential to both enhance performance and reduce associated risks.

This Research Topic aims to offer contemporary insights into the complexities and challenges associated with managing training load to maximize athletic performance and maintain the health of athletes across various sports and levels of competition.
