The One Health approach to antimicrobial resistance (AMR) integrates human, animal, and environmental health to combat the spread of resistant pathogens. Antimicrobial policies and regulations play a crucial role in controlling AMR by enforcing prescription guidelines, limiting over-the-counter antibiotic sales, and promoting responsible antibiotic use in agriculture. Stewardship programs in healthcare and veterinary settings ensure the judicious use of antimicrobials through surveillance, education, and infection prevention strategies. Coordination and control frameworks involve global and national collaborations between health sectors, regulatory bodies, and research institutions to standardize AMR monitoring and response strategies. Lastly, sustainable AMR use focuses on reducing antibiotic dependency through alternative therapies, improved diagnostics, and enhanced biosecurity measures in food production. Strengthening interdisciplinary cooperation under the One Health framework ensures a balanced approach to preserving antimicrobial efficacy, reducing resistance burden, and safeguarding global public health against emerging AMR threats.

This Research Topic aims to address the global health threat posed by AMR by leveraging the One Health approach. The main objectives are to evaluate and strengthen existing antimicrobial policies, implement effective stewardship programs, and coordinate frameworks that facilitate collaboration across various health sectors. This includes examining the efficacy of interventions that promote sustainable antimicrobial use through validation of alternative therapies, redefining diagnostics, and enhancing biosecurity measures. By cultivating a multifaceted and collaborative research focus, we aim to safeguard antimicrobial efficacy for future generations.
