The field of gynecologic oncology has seen remarkable progress in recent years, driven by technological innovations and the integration of multidisciplinary care. As we shift towards evidence-based implementations, the focus has expanded beyond traditional pharmacological interventions, placing increasing emphasis on non-pharmacological innovations, techniques, and technologies that offer tumor-agnostic potential. This Research Topic aims to highlight key advancements, challenges, and the role of collaborative expertise in transforming gynecologic oncology care.

A pivotal development in gynecologic oncology is the rise of minimally invasive surgical techniques which have revolutionized the standard of care by reducing patient recovery time, minimizing complications, and improving surgical precision. Observational studies and, more recently, randomized controlled trials have shown laparoscopic and robotic platforms enable surgeons to operate with greater dexterity and control, allowing for safer dissections even in complex cases. We can now do more maximal effort cytoreductive surgery using these techniques safely, but for whom would it be the most beneficial?

Giving the right patients the right treatment at the right time- precision medicine is the next challenge for all cancers, including gynecological cancers. In addition, integrating genomics and other biomarkers, as well as advanced imaging to stratify patients for prevention and treatment would be crucial to further improve survival of gynecological cancers. Furthermore, the use of intraoperative diagnostics, such as intraoperative fluorescence-guided surgery to enhance the visualization of tumor margins, will provide real-time tailoring of treatment intraoperatively.

To further improve our capability to deliver precision medicine, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning are likely to play an increasingly important role. The ability to use these innovations to integrate complex and heterogeneous datasets, combining demographics, imaging and pathology results to refine diagnoses and predict treatment responses will support multidisciplinary cancer care.

However, innovations are disproportionately beneficial to those in well-resource settings. Deliberate efforts should be made to promote equitable access across diverse healthcare settings. Dedicated initiatives to overcome the implementation challenges in poor-resource settings are likely to maximize the potential impact of innovations in gynecological cancers. Furthermore, promoting quality of life with improved survival in gynecological cancer is also a critical unmet need. Tackling these challenges are crucial for holistic care in gynecological oncology globally.

In this Research Topic, we aim to consolidate insightful implementation of innovations for gynecological cancers. In particular, we are looking for exemplars that promote multidisciplinary collaboration across specialties specifically for patients with gynecological cancers.

We invite submissions of Original Research, Review, Mini Review, Case Analysis, Case Series, and Perspective Articles that cover, but are not limited to:

● Research on non-pharmacological innovations and technologies in gynecological oncology

● Multidisciplinary near-clinic translational research for the improvement of gynecological oncology care

● Technologies and innovations to improve survivorship in gynecological cancer, including a co-production approach with experts by experience.

● Technologies and innovations to improve the equity of gynecological cancer care globally.
