The European Partnership on the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals (PARC) was launched in 2022 to advance our understanding of chemical substances and better protect human health and the environment. As PARC reaches its halfway mark, new activities will be initiated to enhance our capacity to identify hazardous chemicals and implement strategies to minimize harm to humans and the environment. Activities will also further align chemical testing with the EU’s roadmap for phasing out animal testing in chemical toxicity assessments.PARC is structured into several work packages (WPs), with WP5 focusing on hazard assessment for human and environmental health. This WP involves over 80 European partners and aims to address data gaps for chemicals of concern, as well as developing and improving new approach methodologies (NAMs) for hazard assessment. Given the intentionally evolving nature of PARC, presenting early initiatives has proven valuable in increasing awareness and integrating new activities as the project progresses.This research topic will highlight new activities under PARC WP5, specifically efforts to develop NAMs and fill data gaps to enhance chemical risk assessment.
