Oral diseases include a variety of conditions that affect the oral cavity and surrounding tissues, and they are closely linked to inflammation and the immune responses. The oral cavity contains a diverse range of microorganisms that inhabit both hard and soft tissues, such as teeth, oral mucosa, and gingiva. Many factors, including dietary choices, saliva, and overall body health, influence the oral environment. An increasing number of studies show that oral health can impact overall bodily conditions, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and immune disorders, and these health issues can also affect oral health. Furthermore, recent research has revealed the complex relationships between local mucosal immunity and systemic immune responses throughout the body. Understanding these interactions is crucial, emphasizing the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene and health. The implications of these findings extend beyond oral health, linking it to overall systemic health. This knowledge can inform preventive strategies and therapeutic approaches for both oral and systemic diseases.

This Research Topic aims to enhance our understanding of oral diseases through the study of inflammation and the immune responses. We invite submissions of original research articles and comprehensive review articles that explore the complex relationships between immune responses and oral health conditions. The collection of studies could play a crucial role in advancing our knowledge in this area by examining various aspects of immunological involvement in oral diseases, including periodontal disease, xerostomia, and other inflammatory conditions. Understanding the immune response mechanisms in the oral cavity has the potential to transform diagnosis, treatment, and prevention strategies for both oral and systemic diseases. This Special Issue not only contributes to theoretical advancements but also leads to practical applications that significantly improve patient care and outcomes in oral health.

We encourage researchers to submit their new findings and innovative methodologies that could inspire further inquiry and collaboration within the field. This collection covers a range of themes and questions, including but not limited to:

• Investigation of oral diseases using newly generated or existing animal models, cell culture models, and human tissues and cells.

• Imaging analysis in patients or animal models, including CT and MRI.

• Omics data analysis related to epigenetics and post-translational modifications in oral diseases.

• Development of new models.

• Computational and artificial intelligence (AI) approaches in diagnosis and treatment.

• Human genetics approaches to identify links between oral health and systemic diseases.
