The growth of BFR has been matched by the number of different BFR cuffs available for consumer purchase, some of which have device features such as autoregulation, air bladder construction, or shape of the cuff that deviates from the research-based tourniquets. There is a growing need to understand how these device features impact the acute- and longitudinal responses to BFR exercise as clinicians are implementing cuffs with a variety of different features in their own practices. Moreover, methodological considerations such as the way the BFR pressure is determined, the duration of pressure application, and even the pressure used have the capacity to significantly impact the responses to BFR exercise.The aim of this Research Topic will be to improve our understanding of the impact of different BFR device features as well as methodological considerations regarding the prescription of BFR exercise. Specifically, we welcome papers on any of the following in an acute- or longitudinal capacity on relevant outcomes associated with BFR exercise in healthy, athletic, or clinical populations that investigate or hypothesize on:- The impact of autoregulation.- Comparative outcomes between cuffs.- The impact of BFR bladder design.- The impact of cuff shape.- The impact of applied pressure.- The impact of position of pressure assessment.- The impact of continuous, resting, or intermittent BFR applications of pressure.- Factors that influence arterial/limb occlusion pressure assessment.- Reliability and validity of methods to assess arterial/limb occlusion pressure.Any of the following paper types are welcome to be submitted: Original Research, Systematic Review, Mini Review, Perspective, Methods, Case Report, Hypothesis and Theories, Opinion.Topic editor Nicholas Rolnick is employed by BFR PROS.
