Human behavior and mental health were profoundly altered by the COVID-19 pandemic. Anxiety, depression, and symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) increased throughout this time. Some people's mental health has recovered to what it was before the pandemic, but others continue to struggle with persistent conditions, including depression, stress, and insomnia. Some groups may be more susceptible to long-term mental health problems than others, such as healthcare professionals and individuals who have experienced severe illness or loss. The restrictions imposed during the pandemic resulted in many changes in behavior across societies: remote working and education, new technology for communication and entertainment, the use of gaming and streaming services, and alcohol consumption. These altered behaviors have had a knock-on effect on mental health and well-being. Changes in human behavior following the pandemic should continue to be monitored, as well as the advantages and disadvantages for mental health, to inform policymakers, researchers, clinicians, and the wider public.

This Research Topic aims to explore the lasting impacts of COVID-19 on mental health and societal behaviors, identifying specific groups that remain vulnerable and the novel challenges that have emerged. By examining trends in anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other related conditions, this collection of articles will provide critical insights into how society has adapted and which interventions might be most effective in addressing ongoing mental health challenges.

To gather further insights into the shifts in human behavior and mental health following COVID-19, the research will focus on several key areas. These include, but are not limited to:

• the lasting impact on mental health among diverse populations
• remote work adaptations and their influence on societal norms
• changes in technology use and their psychological effects
• persistent trends in alcohol consumption and public health implications
• effects on child development, academic performance, and social skills.
