To meet the demands of a rapidly growing global population, there is an urgent need to construct sustainable and resilient transportation infrastructure. Given the current state of global environmental challenges and the scarcity of natural resources, it is imperative to adopt sustainable practices in road construction. Sustainability principles promote environmentally friendly practices with a focus on reducing energy consumption, lowering carbon emissions, use of recycled and waste materials in construction.

Geosynthetics are polymeric materials used extensively in transportation engineering applications to enhance the performance of the geomaterials. Geotextiles, geogrids, geocells, geo-composites, geomembranes, and geofoams are some of the common types of geosynthetics used in roadway applications. Geosynthetics play a major role in constructing sustainable and resilient roads owing to their high strength, good drainage, durability, light weight, and environmentally friendly properties. Moreover, their usage facilitates easier and faster construction and thereby reduces the cost and time of the project.

This research topic aims to provide a collection of timely and high-quality papers on the use of geosynthetics in sustainable and resilient roads. The interest of the research topic includes applications of geosynthetics in the following topics (but not limited to):

· Unpaved roads, asphalt pavements, concrete pavements, and railroads

· Geogrid, geotextile, and geocell for reinforcement and stabilization

· Geotextile and geocomposite for separation, filtration, and drainage

· Geomembrane and geosynthetic clay liner as moisture barrier or liner

· Geofoam for reduced weight of road embankments

· Advanced characterization of geosynthetics in infrastructure applications
