Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common degenerative joint disease worldwide, leading to significant health and socioeconomic impacts. Despite substantial progress in understanding OA's pathogenesis and developing new therapeutic strategies, orthopedic surgery continues to face challenges due to the condition's multifactorial and progressive nature. An aging population and changing lifestyle factors have heightened the demand for novel preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic strategies for OA.

This Research Topic aims to gather innovative research and comprehensive reviews focusing on future perspectives in osteoarthritis. We seek to highlight advances in early detection—including imaging and biomarker development—and new non-surgical and surgical treatment interventions. Of particular interest are original research and systematic reviews on biological therapies—such as stem cell applications, gene editing, and regenerative medicine—owing to their potential in restoring joint function and slowing disease progression. Contributions that discuss the integration of emerging technologies, like artificial intelligence and machine learning, in diagnostic and prognostic tools are also highly encouraged.

While this Research Topic emphasizes the boundaries of OA research and treatment, it is broadly open to a range of issues. We welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

- Biomechanical and molecular mechanisms underpinning OA
- Novel insights into personalized and precision medicine approaches
- Optimization of perioperative care in joint-preserving and joint-replacement surgeries
