The pelvis is a complex structure, encompassing numerous nerves, blood vessels, and organs, all tightly encased in soft tissue. Consequently, high-energy injuries to the pelvic ring resulting in fractures are among the most complex and challenging surgeries in clinical practice, with poor prognoses. Over 63% of patients experience persistent pain post-surgery, 28% suffer from sensory and motor abnormalities, and 32% are unable to return to their pre-injury occupations.
In recent years, the ongoing integration of new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and mixed reality, into orthopedics has offered innovative perspectives for the advancement of orthopedic surgeries. Numerous scholars have started investigating the application of these new technologies in minimally invasive treatments for pelvis/hip injuries. Their objective is to enhance surgical treatment outcomes for these complex fractures through reduced invasion, better optimized surgical approaches, and scientifically sound standards.
This Research Topic aims to explore and develop cutting-edge methods, technologies, and concepts that integrate digitization and intelligent approaches to enhance the treatment of pelvis/hip fractures. By leveraging advancements in artificial intelligence, robotics, and mixed reality, the objective is to revolutionize surgical techniques and address the multifaceted challenges posed by pelvis/hip injuries. This comprehensive approach encompasses optimizing surgical planning, refining treatment standards, and pioneering new minimally invasive surgical techniques. The ultimate goal is to improve patient outcomes, reduce recovery times, and minimize the risk of complications associated with pelvis/hip fracture surgeries. Specific areas of focus for this topic will include: • AI-based surgical planning for pelvis/hip fractures • New methods for pelvis/hip reduction and internal fixation using navigation, robotics, and augmented reality • Innovative minimally invasive surgical approaches and techniques for pelvis/hip treatment • New digital standards for minimally invasive treatment of pelvis/hip fractures • Case reports on the application of new technologies in treating pelvis/hip fractures
