Building on the momentum of the first edition, this second volume of “Agroecological Practices to Enhance Resilience of Farming Systems” aims to consolidate and expand the scientific evidence base regarding the role of agroecology in bolstering agroecosystem resilience amidst climate change and the global necessity to reduce reliance on synthetic inputs.
Agroecology offers integrated solutions by leveraging ecological processes, agrobiodiversity, and context-specific management practices to simultaneously improve system resilience, productivity, and the overall performance of regulating, supporting, and provisioning ecosystem services. This Research Topic welcomes novel contributions that advance understanding of how agroecological practices can facilitate mitigation and adaptation to climate-related stresses, including rising temperatures, prolonged drought, and extreme weather events.
We invite original research articles, meta-analyses, systematic reviews, and position papers addressing crop diversification (e.g., intercropping, agroforestry, crop rotations, and landrace, mixtures) and soil management strategies (e.g., cover cropping, green manures, living or dead mulch, compost application, and minimum/no-tillage strategies). This second volume particularly encourages studies that quantify resilience outcomes, disentangle underlying mechanisms, and address scaling pathways or governance frameworks.
