About this Research Topic

Enormous amount of global energy are consumed by buildings. In the United States alone, it accounts for over 40% of national energy usage and out-consumes both the industrial and transportation sectors. Therefore, it is very important to reduce the energy consumption of buildings that leads to less resource consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. To realize energy optimization in buildings, it will be important to incorporate design optimization, energy resources optimization and operation optimization.

This Research Topic aims to present the current state-of-the-art progress and trends in advanced building energy optimization technologies. The original experimental studies, numerical simulations and reviews in all aspects of energy efficiency design optimization, building-integrated renewable energy, and energy management optimization are welcome to be submitted to this Research Topic.

Topics to be covered:
1. Energy efficiency building design optimization, including passive and active designs,
2. Building-integrated renewable energy, including building integrated photovoltaic system, building-integrated wind turbines, etc.,
3. Energy management optimization in buildings, including optimization on HVAC system, lighting, and other equipment,
4. Environment design optimization, including indoor environment and outdoor environmental design.
