Human neuroscience is producing increasingly rich and diverse datasets spanning neuroimaging, electrophysiology, cognition, behavior, clinical phenotyping, and multimodal study designs. The scientific value of these resources depends not only on data generation, but also on their transparency, documentation, interoperability, and long-term reuse.
This Research Topic welcomes submissions across multiple article types, including FAIR² Data articles, Original Research, Reviews, Methods articles, Data Reports, and Perspectives. We particularly encourage FAIR² Data articles describing high-quality, rigorously curated datasets from healthy participants and clinical populations across the lifespan. We encourage submissions that clearly present data provenance, structure, metadata, quality control, harmonization, and reuse potential, including resources that enable replication, cross-site harmonization, benchmarking, secondary analyses, and responsible AI-enabled research.
Contributors are encouraged to address the responsible downstream use of their datasets, including known limitations, potential biases, and ethical considerations relevant to their application in AI-driven and machine learning research, with particular attention to transparency and interpretability in downstream applications, especially in clinical neuroscience contexts. We also welcome Perspective articles discussing the responsible and ethical use of open neuroscience datasets in AI-enabled research. Submissions are further encouraged to reflect on dataset diversity and representativeness, including demographic coverage across populations, to help address known biases in neuroscience and AI research.
By gathering rigorously curated and reusable datasets in one collection, this Research Topic aims to strengthen open science practices and accelerate data-driven discovery in human neuroscience. This Research Topic is open for submissions across all sections of the Frontiers in Human Neuroscience journal.
