The construction industry is a major consumer of natural resources and a significant source of carbon emissions worldwide. The production of traditional building materials particularly cement-based products involves high energy consumption and substantial environmental impact. Developing low-carbon, high-performance green building materials has therefore become a critical pathway toward sustainable construction.
This Research Topic focuses on the design, preparation, characterization, and engineering applications of green building materials that contribute to sustainable and low-carbon development in the built environment. It aims to promote material innovation and support broader implementation across sustainable infrastructure.
Scope
Key challenges addressed include coordinating low-carbon design with material performance and long-term durability, and understanding the relationships among material composition, preparation processes, microstructure evolution, and engineering performance. Recent advances including the utilization of industrial solid wastes, development of low-carbon cementitious systems, and adoption of technologies such as additive manufacturing and intelligent material design offer promising routes to improving both environmental sustainability and structural performance.
Topics of Interest
Submissions may address, but are not limited to:
o Utilization of industrial solid wastes and recycled resources in construction materials o Design and preparation of low-carbon cementitious materials and sustainable composites o Relationships between material composition, processing methods, and mechanical/durability performance o Innovative preparation technologies and advanced fabrication methods o Engineering applications, case studies, and field demonstrations of green building materials o Environmental performance assessment and sustainability evaluation
