Intelligent pharmacy, leveraging big data analytics, AI algorithms, and IoT devices, provides integrated intelligent solutions for medication supply, clinical pharmaceutical care, and pharmacy management. As an emerging interdisciplinary field that integrates intelligent technologies with pediatric pharmacy, intelligent pediatric pharmacy (IPP) precisely addresses the unique attributes of children—such as immature physiological development, high interindividual variability in drug response, and heightened susceptibility to adverse drug reactions—to achieve automated drug information management, precise medication process control, and personalized pharmaceutical service delivery. In recent years, this field has developed rapidly, becoming a new paradigm for enhancing pediatric pharmaceutical services. However, several prominent challenges remain: a lack of pediatric-specific intelligent models (e.g., PK/PD predictors for different age groups), insufficient standardization of intelligent dispensing and medication monitoring systems; inadequate integration of multi-source pediatric medication data (EHRs, medication histories, ADR reports); and the need for further clinical validation of intelligent tools. In addition, ethical considerations, data security, a shortage of interdisciplinary talent, and regulatory hurdles further constrain its clinical application.
Goal
This Research Topic aims to explore the impact of intelligent technologies on the innovation and development of pediatric pharmacy, focusing on the application of artificial intelligence, big data, and digital tools in pediatric drug research and development (R&D), drug management, and drug therapy. Meanwhile, it seeks to deepen the understanding of practical implementation strategies, technical bottlenecks, and feasible solutions for intelligent pediatric pharmacy, forstering the in-depth integration of intelligent technologies with conventional pediatric pharmaceutical services to ultimately optimize children's clinical outcomes and medication safety in pediatric populations.
