The fresh energy brought by the revitalized research attention offers an opportunity to more closely integrate novel drug discovery, residue monitoring, and environmental risk assessment into practical solutions. This Research Topic seeks to highlight innovative studies that combine advanced analytical techniques, pharmacokinetic modeling, and ecotoxicological evaluation, published open access, freely disseminated to clinicians, regulators, and environmental stakeholders worldwide. By fostering multidisciplinary collaboration and showcasing translational research, the aim is to accelerate the development of safer, more effective veterinary therapeutics, refine residue-management protocols, and guide policy-relevant risk assessments—ultimately reinforcing the health of animals, humans, and ecosystems.
The fresh energy brought by the renewed attention to these research themes presents an opportunity to more closely integrate novel drug discovery, residue monitoring, and environmental risk assessment to achieve both fundamental knowledge and practical solutions. This Research Topic seeks to highlight and promote innovative studies that combine advanced analytical techniques, pharmacokinetic modeling, and ecotoxicological evaluation. Emphasis will be given to studies about novel compounds with a proven antimicrobial or antiparasitic effect, anesthetics and analgesics, anti-inflammatory agents with particular attention to inhibitors of inflammatory mediators, and drugs to control renal or cardiovascular impairments. Among emerging contaminants, attention will be paid to novel persistent pollutants such as PFAS, plastic additives and other endocrine-disrupting chemicals, pharmaceuticals and personal care products, rare earth elements, and possible mixtures of them.
This research topic is published as open access, making it freely available to clinicians, regulators, and environmental stakeholders worldwide. With these premises, by fostering multidisciplinary collaboration and translational research, the aim is to accelerate the development of safer, more effective veterinary therapeutics, refine residue management protocols, and guide policy-relevant risk assessments, thereby reinforcing the health of animals, humans, and ecosystems.
This Research Topic encourages submissions that report advances in veterinary pharmacology and toxicology. Among the possible topics are:
• Design and evaluation of innovative drug delivery systems or pharmaceutical forms.
• Discovery and characterization of bioactive compounds from natural sources, also highlighting their possible use as alternatives to synthetics.
• New knowledge about pharmacodynamics and/or pharmacokinetics of innovative veterinary drugs, or of established drugs across various animal species.
• Studies on the toxicological or ecotoxicological profiles of emerging contaminants and unexplored effects of established pollutants.
• Technical innovations in pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic studies..
• Assessment of novel pharmacotherapeutic strategies in animals, especially those leveraging omics-driven approaches.
Original research, systematic reviews, methods papers, short communications, and perspectives are welcome. Submissions must present rigorous experimental data and comply with the Journal’s ethics, data-sharing, and reporting guidelines.
This Research Topic accepts the following article types, unless otherwise specified in the Research Topic description:
Articles that are accepted for publication by our external editors following rigorous peer review incur a publishing fee charged to Authors, institutions, or funders.
