Regenerative dentistry has rapidly evolved from traditional repair approaches toward biologically driven strategies that aim to restore the structure and function of dental and maxillofacial tissues. Advances in biomaterials science, molecular biology, and tissue engineering have provided new opportunities to enhance tissue regeneration, yet significant challenges remain in translating these innovations into predictable clinical outcomes.
This Research Topic aims to bring together cutting-edge studies and comprehensive reviews focusing on innovative regenerative strategies for dental restoration, with particular emphasis on the integration of biological mechanisms and translational applications. We welcome contributions that explore how emerging biomaterials, cell-based therapies, and molecular signaling pathways can be leveraged to improve tissue repair and regeneration in oral and maxillofacial contexts.
Key areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
Advanced biomaterials and nanoengineered systems for dental, periodontal, and bone regeneration
Cell-based therapies, including stem cells, exosomes, and bioactive factor delivery
Molecular mechanisms underlying tissue repair, such as osteogenesis, angiogenesis, inflammation, and immune modulation
Biomaterial–cell interactions and microenvironmental regulation in tissue regeneration
Strategies to enhance vascularization and integration of engineered tissues
Translational research bridging experimental findings with clinical applications
Clinical studies evaluating regenerative approaches in dentistry and oral surgery
Particular attention will be given to studies that combine mechanistic insights with therapeutic innovation, as well as interdisciplinary approaches that integrate biomaterials, nanotechnology, and molecular medicine. By fostering collaboration between basic scientists, biomaterial engineers, and clinicians, this Research Topic seeks to provide a comprehensive platform for advancing the field of regenerative dentistry and accelerating the translation of emerging technologies into clinical practice.
