Background

The zebrafish embryo assay is an established model in developmental toxicity screening, offering a balance of biological complexity and experimental efficiency. However, questions remain about its sensitivity in detecting substances with subtle or low-dose effects, particularly when compared to traditional mammalian models.

This Research Topic brings together work focused on improving the reliability and sensitivity of zebrafish embryo assays, including advances in endpoint selection, exposure protocols, imaging and data analysis, and the integration of omics approaches.
