Case Reports in Gastric and Esophageal Cancers: 2026

This Research Topic is designed to assemble Case Reports submitted to the Gastrointestinal Cancers: Gastric and Esophageal Cancers section. All submissions deemed appropriate for this section will be considered for inclusion in the collection. Each manuscript will be assessed by a Senior Associate Editor before entering into the peer review process. Authors are advised to carefully review the criteria below prior to submission.

Submissions should focus on clinically or scientifically informative cases that go beyond routine presentations. Emphasis is placed not simply on unusual occurrences, but on reports that advance understanding in the field. Preference will be given to studies supported by omics-based data and mechanistic insights, particularly when they offer clear value for future research and clinical application.

The following types of reports are especially encouraged:
1. Uncommon cases that display characteristic features that provide meaningful insights.
2. Well-known conditions presenting in unexpected ways with implications for diagnosis, treatment or disease biology.
3. Reports demonstrating notable responses to emerging or unconventional therapies, including single cases involving off-label use.
4. Cases that integrate molecular, translational, or multi-omics-approaches to generate insights that are relevant to future research and patient care.

Case Report format
• Maximum word count: 3000 words
• Title: Case Report: “area of focus”
• Abstract
• Introduction, outlining the significance of the case and relevant background literature
• Detailed case presentation, including de-identified patient information, clinical course, prior treatments and outcomes
• A figure or table presenting the clinical timeline
• Section covering diagnosis, management, follow-up, and outcomes, in accordance with the CARE guidelines
• Discussion addressing interpretation, strengths and limitations, comparison with existing literature, and key implications
• Patient perspective

Please note that written informed consents from the patients or their legal representatives are required for publication. In line with the scope of this section, submissions are particularly encouraged when supported by clinical correlations, molecular findings, or translational research approaches, including multi-omics profiling. Studies consisting solely of bioinformatics, computational analysis, or public database predictions without independent validation are not suitable for publication in this section.
